hi seb and pascal,
a long, long time ago in a galaxy far away, no not really, but a long time ago i did ask about the visitor counter being revised. the problem with it is that it is not accurate. it only shows the total number of visits per auction but not when. the counter does not reset at every new cycle whether it is weekly, monthly, or whatever. can this be remedied?
merci et a bientot,

The problem with the visitor system is not that the count may or may not be restarted when an item is restarted or not.
In my view a far worse problem is the fact that a member can add to the count by "working" the item. If a seller wants to leave the impression that his item(s) have many visits, all he has to do is to use a bit of time to look at and leave the item(s) repeatedly. 1 visitor should be counted only once at each item.
And in my view the count should continue uninterupted as long as an item is up for sale.

bonjour olave,
this is exactly the problem and as a result, delcampe has suggested new and possibly harmful suggestions (see this):

Oops - a bit fast on the pen there. I tested this again and it looks like I may have goofed when I say it's possible to "work" an item. Although I'm not quite sure as I don't really understand how the counting works. When I look at an item with 0 visits it ought to show at least 1 visitor when I look at it again some minutes later - but it still shows 0. Does the count update only periodically, not continuosly??

hi olave,
i don't think our visits to our own auctions are counted. at least that was smart of delcampe to do this and not give a false count. but still how do the stats of the visits break down for each cycle? this is what is being addressed by pascal on the delcampe forum among other things so the slow server problems can be solved. actually, i think if they hire faster programmers, it will be cured.

Unfortunally they are counted as well, if I'm not completely wrong - but the counter needs a while to react. That waiting time you will see as well, when you will find an auction with a bid - but no visitor. The bid is counted fast, the visitor takes a while.

Well, testing even more and it turns out I was right after all. As pointed out by several members there must be a delay in updating of the visitors count. "Working" one of my own items I was able to increase visitors from 4 to 22 in the matter of minutes - although it took some time before the count showed up.
I also "worked" a couple of items belonging to others a few times and the same happened. Which means the system can be corrupted as a matter of friendly assistance as well.
The Delcampe team should do something about this asap. I, for one, want to see a count showing number of different members interested in my items - not a count showing number of clicks.

hi olave,
you are correct mon ami, it did so for me as well. but it can be friend and foe, unfortunately.

And an addition: a (foreign) pageview should as well be counted, when someone is having a look at the picture. I found it out with some new items, some were bidded at once, others did not even have a pageview. Seen from title they don't make a big difference, so I guess that most people just had a look at the pic (like I'm doing as well) without opening the whole site.
I'm used to have a look at pageviews and that function is as well mentioned as help or indicator for people interest in auction in the actual discussion - agree, but then it should work correctly. The counter like it's working on Delcampe is not a help to everything.
